Filipino films have fascinated Pinoys after our American brothers brought onshore their American films As we don’t want to left behind, we started having our own version of Elizabeth Taylor, Lana Turner, Rock Hudson, Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds to name a few. Anak Dalita- starring Tony Santos Sr and Rosa Rosal- a story of two people who shares same faith of being poor. Their misfortune is even made worst when they’re ejected from the place they called home. It was a classic film directed by Lamberto Avellana. It won several local awards and international acting award for Tony Santos and directorial recognition for Avellana.
Badjao- it’s foretells the story of a sea dweller tribe called Badjo marrying a low-lander and after defying culture ,tradition and religion, the couple decides to till the land and try to live peacefully. But peace is something that is hard to achieve as they’re forever haunted by their respective culture and religion. The movie earned awards in Asian Film festival in 1957 for direction, screenplay, editing and cinematography. It stars the pair of Rosa Rosal and Tony Santos Sr.
Genghis Khan- starring Manuel Conde who directed the film .too. Conde retold the story of this great warrior in his own artistic way and he won the recognition in the international Film industry and became the first Filipino Film maker and actor to be given such honor. It was produced in 1952.
Biyaya ng Lupa- another great movie that stars the tandem of Rosa Rosal and Tony Santos SR plus a young promising actor then, Leroy Salvador Jr. The life of ordinary Lanzones grower is depicted here and how the bounty of earth saved their lives and future. It brought award to the young Leroy Salvador who became an acclaimed film director during his time.
Ikaw Kasi- A comedy-musical movie of Nestor de Villa and Nida Blanca’s love team. It depicts the family extended family culture and grown-up children providing for the family needs. Its satirist approach makes it effective in its attempts to criticize the most abused Filipino traits of family ties.
